I have a computer I built about 8 years ago. I was working on it with no problems and the system froze. I powered off the computer and back on but during the POST test it froze. I powered off again for a few minutes and powered back on and now there is no beep when the computer comes on and there is no display on the screen. I tried swapping out the graphics card, re-seating the memory sticks, and pulled the CMOS battery out over night and put back in but the issue remains. I also tried unplugging all the power cables inside except for the motherboard and cpu and power of to see if it beeps but it does not. Could the CPU be bad or could it be CMOS battery is just dead. I am hoping it is just the CMOS battery. The Motherboard I have is a BFG Tech (unable to locate the model number) with a AMD Athlon 64 bit processor. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

A dead CMOS battery causes a loss of configuration settings, but the system would still power on and work fine once you reconfigure it. Check if the PSU is working properly (best is to try another one) and if so, then the motherboard most likely is bad. It's very unlikely the CPU is defective.
