Just built new pc, very slow internet connection

So Ive just built a new gaming rig, it all runs fine apart from one thing, the internet is at about 1mbps speed. I bought a wireless pci-e card for it and it made no difference from when i was using a dongle. Im fairly sure I have updated all drivers, although im not sure about my cpu driver. could this make a difference? I tried plugging it in wired downstairs and it was fine for about 5 minutes then dropped connectivity. Keeping it wired isnt an option for me anyway. Thanks and a quick response will be really apprectiated

Check that you have installed all the drivers for your new motherboard, including network and USB drivers. A CPU related driver should not make a difference for the speed of your network connection.

I have tried redownloading the drivers and checking they are in place, its not that as far as I can tell

Let's take a step back. Plug a notebook into your modem, without the router, and run Speedtest.net. See what speeds you get.

Ok, the 60 mbps speed tells us that the internet speed is good- at the modem.

Now, plug the router in, and rerun the Speedtest while wired to the router, and also via wifi from the router. Use a computer other than the one that you just built.
