Removing IDE Drive causes boot failure

Hi, recently I switched my original IDE drive to a couple of SATA's, one with my OS and the other as my storage drive after I had moved the contents from the IDE to the new SATA. My problem is that after shutting down and removing the drive from the motherboard and the IDE cables, the system doesn't start properly. It says that a required device isn't found or something like that. I'm running windows 8.1 and, another thing to mention, is that the system won't even let me format the old drive itself. It just says the format could not be completed.

I've tried looking for this on the web and haven't found absolutely anything. I've heard however that it may have something to do with the boot manager or whatever registry file is trying to boot from that old hard drive. The IDE drive is really slowing down my boot and PC performance, and it's got some issues. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
