Here's my setup -
Asus Motherboard, F2A85-M LE
AMD A10-5800K (APU - Radeon 7660D)
8 GB Corsair Vengeance (CMZ8GX3M1A1600C10)
Amacrox Freestyle - 750W PSU
1TB HDD
Cooler Master K380
Windows 8.1

On the motherboard, I see right above the PCI-E slot, "PCIEX16_1" and online the Asus website it says :-
Expansion Slots:
2 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (x16/x4)
1 x PCIe 2.0 x1
1 x PCI

But this Graphic Card, the MSI R7 260X 2GD5 OC, according to MSI's website, shows :-
Interface - PCI Express x16 3.0

Now I know the numbers don't match up but I'm naive that way :p Also I'm hellbent on getting that graphic card. I've heard of PCIs being backwards compatible and stuff, but I need to be sure before buying this card.

Please someone tell me this is gonna be alright? The R7 260X on the Asus F2A85M LE ?

Or is there a better graphic card out there for the same price? I basically need 2GBs of GDDR memory and at-least a base of 950MHz Core Clock.

Thanks for that quick reply! :D Gosh I'm so relieved it's gonna be compatible..

But, about your 2 suggestions, isn't the R7 260X still coming on top, though? With the higher clock speeds? I don't get it, is there something I'm missing? I checked them out on gpuboss.com, and benchmarks seem to put the R9 270 over the R7 260 but how is that happening? I'm starting to doubt R7 card now xP On their websites, the specs show the R7 slightly better, but how's gpuboss showing the R9 leaps and bounds better? I'm new to graphic cards and their workings so go easy on me? As for the zotac, oh I'd love to but my budget holds me back. :p Plus everywhere I looked I saw the 2GB version of the Zotac, not the 4GB like in pcpartpicker's link.

But do tell, how's the specs of the R7 being better than the R9; yet the R9 seems to outperform the R7 on gpuboss? I'll look around on more websites and all for comparing the two in the meantime...

Yep thats rite what madmatt said The r9 are a different higher tier chipset. That's the reason they easily outperform R7 260:D
I also got the same question whats the model of your PSU?

It's something I wasn't sure about the time when I was buying the parts unfortunately, so I'd told the guy at the store to give me whichever PSU he recommended... Although I know better now, I'm not really inclined on getting a newer, better PSU just yet..

It's an Amacrox Freestyle - 750W

Am I still in the green? *bites nails*

Thanks for that GPU! It seems like a beast for the price!! I'll look up some reviews and more information about it! :D

Amacrox Freestyle Never even heard of that brand:(

Looking at specs its an old model made by FSP - they make some decent models but also some rubbish.
Its not what I would buy personally but if you already have it it will do the job.
Looks to be a REAL 750w- anandtech loaded it out to 834w before it closed down so its not going to struggle with a 280 IMO.
It looks like it has 2 lots of 6 & 8 pin pci-express power connectors.
The 4 split rails I don't like but they're likely to be virtual rather than physical
If this is so I would recommend using 1 from each cable to power the GPU - just an extra precaution.

Thanks a lot! I'll do as you say! I'll be getting the Gigabyte R9 280 OC from Amazon.com [link] since here in my country (india) the same card costs almost $200 more. It's cheaper and they're shipping it to my location, I'll be buying it in the following month! :D I usually play games that are third person.. Mostly just Assassin's Creed, .. I have others like Murdered Soul Suspect, Splinter Cell, L.A Noire, Watch_Dogs and Hitman Absolution, but I don't play those as much.. I'll also be mainly only playing the Assassin's Creed series, there's literally no other game that interests me as much :p Not at all fond of First Person Shooter games.. Up until now I was able to play these games on the lowest settings at 720p/1080p; high settings at a very low 800x600.. :p and since Assassin's Creed 4, (and with Unity now here too), I've been thinking about getting a GPU... This would be my first GPU ever :p Wasn't into gaming a while ago. The APU and the AC series are what really got me into gaming :p

But anyway, I digress..!

So how long, say, till I'll need to swap GPUs again? This will last a while, right? I understand that a few years from now, or a even a year from now itself maybe; games will get more demanding and so I'm not looking for ultra mindblowingly orgasmic along MSAAx8 graphics, just something that'll keep me at a 30+ fps @ 1080/720p with low to medium-ish settings in a few years. This card will get me there, right? :p

Other than gaming I do a bit of video rendering, and 3D modelling, Cinema 4D.. I also use a Wacom Intuos Manga tablet with photoshop for digital art that I make. With my APU being able to handle these tasks more or less flawlessly I don't see why a GPU may not too, but I thought I'd just put it out there. Incase? Cause I'm really new to all this GPU side of PCs.

The 280 is at least 5x more powerful than your integrated graphics.
Less than 2 years ago it was only 3 cards down from the top.
Its a great performing card - future proofing who knows??
It'll currently do any title at 1080p high.
2 years down the line I'd fully expect it to manage medium 1080p at the very least.

Hey everyone, I know it's been long, but I've been trying since forever to buy the card and I've hit a bit of an obstacle. My ****ing country's some rules by the banks decline payments made internationally for electronics. Is there another card for the same or a better now (that it's been a while) for the same price? Something around INR Rs. 15000 or USD $220ish? The guys at Gigabyte told me they've only just began settling everything in India about 4 months ago. Their inventory isn't quite full yet - they told me they've got all Nvidia cards stocked up ; but I prefer AMD, they're more customizable and stuff, plus it's a better fit for my PC rig, right? Anyway, could anyone pitch another GPU? I'm researching on my own too, for something similar to the Gigabyte WindForce R9 280.. Or maybe just wait it out till the guys here have the card.. They said they'll have AMD cards in a quarter of a year.. Worth waiting for, right? It's a damn good card. Or by now is there something better for the same price?
