I currently have these G. Skill Ripjaws 2x8 1866 RAM installed http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231528 in my computer. Recently a friend of mine no longer had a need for his G. Skill Ripjaws 2x4 1866 RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231455 and gave them to me to sell or use, or whatever. Seeing as I'm too lazy to try and sell them, I figured I'd use them. I could just stick them in and see what happens, but, I'm a very paranoid person, thanks mom. So, I figured I would ask you guys first. My 2x8 sticks are dual channel in slots 1 and 3. So would it be okay to use the 2x4 in slots 2 and 4? In my mind it would be fine since pretty much everything about the two RAMs is pretty much the same. But, you guys most likely know better. If they are fine to use would I have to change any timings, or voltages, etc? Or does it not matter since they are two separate channels?

Give them a try since you have them, if they will play together, will prob boot up at 1333, maybe 1600. Big thing is if they will play - then you can try setting to 1600 or better - let me know and we can adjust the timings and voltage to get the most out of them. If they won't play, it's not going to damage anything, it simply won't boot w/ all installed

Yes, it definitely possible, though there are no guarantees, it often takes timings/voltage adjustments, and even then no guarantee - but....if you have them no reason not to try - from CPU go 8GB-4GB-8GB-4GB, that way 12GB in each channel and keep dual channel running
