I've had the same PC for almost 3 years now after building it in late 2012 with some upgrades along the way. It has always worked flawlessly, except when removed from power, where it inexplicably stops posting for a while and only boots up without actually doing anything. It'll start working again eventually but right now I'm stuck without a PC after unplugging it to upgrade the CPU cooler. The CPU, RAM, mobo, and everything else work fine when it does post though, so what could be causing this? Dead CMOS battery? What can I do?

Solution
Yes, the most likely cause is a dead or weak CMOS battery. Try replacing it first before attempting other solutions. The battery type should be CR2032. If that doesn't work, try updating your BIOS. If there isn't an update available, download the duplicate BIOS version of the one you have and re flash it. The current image could have been corrupted, so this is an easy way to fix that kind of issue. Just make sure to write down the specific BIOS settings before flashing the motherboard.

Yes, this is an issue. I would recommend going to your nearest electronic store and get a replacement jumper. Worst case, you will have to order it online, which means not having a PC to use over the weekend. Try RadioShack or a local computer store if you have one of those in your area.
