Hi all,

Just wondering If I'd notice much in the way of a performance increase going from the 930 to the 4790k?

If not, which will be the next CPU up which will give me a noticeable difference?

Thank you all

You gain more performance per thread , the i7-4790K is ranked two tiers above the 930 in gaming performance however the 930 is unluckily to bottleneck any GPU on the market ( It still packs a punch ).

For Web Development and Audio Production I believe that you will yield about 20% better performance.

Intel hasn't improved all that much when it comes to Multithreaded tasks , for single threaded apps the i7-4790K is miles ahead .

For Multithreaded apps expect about 30% performance increase so If you think that's worth it then pick up the 4790K.

Thank you for the detailed answer. What could I expect from the next step up from the 4790k, i.e. the 5820k?

By stepping it up from the 4790K to the 5820K you gain nothing gaming wise , some might see it as a disadvantages as games nowadays don't make use of the extra cores however in any Multithreaded apps you have extra 4 threads ( the 5820K is 6 cores 12 threads while the 4790K is 4 cores 8 threads ) which make your life a hell lot easier however it costs a lot of money too ( you get 28 PCIE lanes on the 820K however the cost of DDR4 , X99 Motherboards and other stuff makes the price difference as of now for me unjustified. )

I can't think of an extreme situation where you'll want the extra 4 threads , maybe in software programming but then it's only up to you to decide whether it's worth it or not.

Ok thank you. I think for now I'll buy a new CPU cooler. OC the 930 a bit and see how that goes for a while. Then see whats on the market when it comes to upgrading MOBO, RAM & CPU.

Thanks for the help!
