Upgrade external HDD to USB 3.0?

Hey everyone ... quick question. I have an older Seagate external HDD that is USB 2.0. I am wanting to use it for extra storage on my XBox One ... but the XBox One requires an external HDD with USB 3.0.

Is it difficult and/or expensive to try and upgrade my HDD to USB 3.0? I am pretty competent and comfortable working with computer hardware, so would be willing to try the upgrade as long as it's pretty feasible and not terribly expensive.

Any thoughts?

Solution
Yes but it won't "speed up" the HDD itself, that is the issue. If " XBox One requires an external HDD with USB 3" then because of the performance demands of the XBOXOne, it won't 'perform' as expected (very long load times, lag, delays, low FPS, etc. etc. etc.) as it needs a modern drive standard for the external HDD, which this won't perform. Slapping on a SATA I drive to a USB3 port doesn't suddenly allow the drive to reach over 3.2 Gbit/s the USB 3 / XBox is going to expect, because the I/O of the HDD itself (which is soldered into the HDD itself) is still only a SATA I (1.5Gb/s).

You do realize you can graba aUSB 3.0 1TB drive off the shelf at Walmart for less then $45? Some specials as low as $20!
You can't "upgrade" a actual physical HDD like that, as USB standard is all about the entire design of the HDD itself, not just 'add a different adapter' concept you probably think it is. You CAN connect a USB 2 to a USB 3, but IF the requirement is USB3, then that is due to the needed added bandwidth and design changed to the actual HDD platform itself when USB 3 was authorized as a common interface.

Gotcha. I'm with ya now. I don't want any performance issues since the content on the drive will be games. I was just thinking of using what I already have here ... but makes more sense to go grab a new one. Thanks for the advice.
