Internet connection has become extremely slow after VPN, even with software exited and later uninstalled.

Two weeks ago I purchased the VPN software, Private Internet Access, and ever since have had major troubles with the speed of my internet connection, even when the program is not running.

Prior to this, I could always get a stable 10mb/s connection, which never fell below that nor presented me with any problems. I then began to use the VPN and found the fastest servers to be the US ones (Even though I'm in the UK) at roughly 7 or so mb/s, a connection which again remained stable and never gave me any problems. The issue arose when disconnecting from, or exiting the software, upon which my native connection (which was previously a perfectly usable 10mb/s) dropped to less than 1mb/s. Restarting my PC did not solve this, nor opening and exiting the program, I disabled run on start-up, and having checked the task manager processes, can confirm the VPN was off, but still my connection was less than 1mb/s. From here, I could open Private Internet Access and connect to any server and my speed would return to 7 or so mb/s, but dropped again once I closed the program.

I tried the the advice given to me by Private Internet Access's support, which was to access the Network and Sharing centre in the control panel, go into "change adapter settings", go into properties of my connection and then "(TCP/IPv4)" and change my preferred DNS server to an IP address which I can no longer recall (I think it began with 222). This had no affect and I undid the changes, which again, had no affect.

I then went on to uninstall the program, following the instructions on their website and a provided uninstaller .exe, as well as disabling Tap-Win32 from the device manager, and with no trace of the VPN left on my computer, my download speed is still at less than 1 mb/s.

All other devices in my house can still maintain a solid 10mb/s and the issue is restricted only to the computer which had the VPN installed on it. I have tried moving it closer to the router and even connecting with an ethernet cable, but my connection still remains unusably slow. Private Internet Access maintain this issue is unrelated to their software, considering the issue has persisted after it was uninstalled and say they can provide me with no further help, yet the problem began exactly the first time I disconnected from the VPN and has remained since, something which surely cannot be coincidental.

Also, to add, I did not change any of the default settings on Private Internet Access, and have not changed any other settings on my network.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can provide any help.
