Do i have to set Ram Speed manually when buying new memory?

Al right lads, im building my first PC, ive chosen Asus Maximus VII Ranger Intel Z97 as a mother board, not for half the features that ill never use but because its pretty and ive chosen 2 x 8 gigs of 2666mhz, RAM, again not because its fast but because it matches the colour of my motherboard(OCD much). Anyway, now what im wondering is do i have to do anything special for this ram to work? or can i plug it in and it will run at 2666 right away? thanks fellers.

It will work right away though probably not at 2666MHz. IIRC that would probably default to 1333; to run memory rated for higher than the board's default speed at it's full rated speed, enable X.M.P. in the BIOS.

Initially it will go to the mobos default of 1333, then as mentioned above try enabling XMP and select profile 1, for 2666 will prob need a slight CPU OC also, so will be wanting a K model CPU
