Hello , I tried out Overclocking for the first time. I didnt just run into the BIOS straight away but I watched some videos and attempted it.
-My first attempt was with AMD Overdrive. Did everything properly but I didnt seem to somehow notice or see that the clock speed changed or it seemed kind of dodgy in a sense. So i reset it back to its normal state.
-Second attempt I went over the BIOS ( See full specs of PC at the bottom). I have MSI A78M - E35 with Click BIOS 4. Anyway headover the the OC section and changed the CPU Ratio to 40 and that also changed the CPU Frequency to 4000mhz. Next i moved over the AMD Turbo Core Technology . I ENABLED it , due to in the video the person explaining states that this changed the CPU Speed while in game and goes back the IDLE speed which i set to 4ghz. So just to test it out i put it on 4,2ghz.
I Save and Reset and get back to using my PC . No problems at all . I go over to the SYSTEM section in Control PaneI and it says 4ghz so i though i OC it successfully , then i go over to CPUID HWMonitor and checked the CPU temp. and it was 37 - 40 roughly (IDLE). I though to my self that its okay because i read about it before and that seemed a okay temp.

So i go test out the new CPU speed in Minecrat (I play bigger games too , dont think im a noob . But in minecraft is where i can see my frames go jumpy) . And i go into a worls and it becomes all choopy and not smooth. This isnt FPS lag because i check the FPS and its 60(I capped it off) . Someone in the comment video of the How to Overclock also put that theirs became choppy. I also tried rendering a 60fps youtube video in Sony Vegas and checked my Temp and it was 75 degres i knew that wasnt good at all. At 4ghz i get 63 - 66 , which is much lower.

So i go back into the Bios and put the CPU ratio to 40 (4ghz) and same with the Turbo Tech. Speed. Go back and the choopiness has gone away. ( Why was the reason for this ?)
So no i think okay I overclocked at least a little bit , i went from 3,8ghz(stock speed) to 4ghz. I also check the SYSTEM part of Control panel again and this time is says 3,99ghz. I dont know why it says this because i did put it 4,ghz ?

At 4ghz i also test out Grid AutoSport , i have it on Ultra Setting , no lag. My temps are around 64 - 67. Still good i was thinking.
So this is the setup im using now (4ghz) , but i still dont know why it says 3,99ghz.

My CPU cooler is a ArticFreeze A30 Cooler , which im running at roughly 1300rpm.

My questions are did i Overclock it properly ?
And why did i get such a high temp while only rendering ?

My Overclock settings , seemed to be kind of messed up im hoping someone can give me a good detailed guide to get it back to normal.
Sorry if im too detailed i just didnt want to miss anything out.

I wouldn't really say "while only rendering" because this is one of the most CPU intensive tasks you will do. Yes you did OC properly and would probably be safe back at 4.2 or even a little higher with a CPU cooler. You can pick up some very good ones for $20-$30.

Two things. You should learn how to overclock in the bios. Not with any program such as AMD Overdrive. Secondly- turn off Turbo Core when you overclock your cpu. There are plenty of good info on overclocking FM2 cpu's on the net. You should find a good overclcock and stress test it with Prime95 and monitor your voltage and cpu and socket temps while doing so.

I think the one i use Arctic Freezer A30 is good enough for now. But do you think its safe while i do the rendering at 75 degress ? Even long term ?

Okay thanks for the info , i will turn of turbocore . I will also go look up a guide and go acording to that. Also i will look up Prime95 as i havent heard of it before. Again thanks for the information :)

Also I believe you cannot alter the voltage for the CPU on the A78M-E35 Motherboard. I believe I have seen 2-3 users who said this that own the same motherboard as you. So you will be limited to overclocks that will work with stock voltages.

Yes that is true , mine is set to 1,4V and runs at about 1,385 roughly. So i keep it at that.
I have got it going at 4ghz , i did a stress test with Prime95 and it passed successfully. While IDLE my temp is very jumpy. Between 35 and 55( Anyway i can stablelise it) and around 61 - 64 while playing. This is according to CPUIDHW monitor. If you have any other more reliable programs to measure temperature be sure to recommend some. Thanks
