gtx 980 vs mars 760 + another gtx 760?

So I have a question for the experts. Right now I have a 2 gb asus gtx 760 card and I am looking to upgrade. I have heard that if you get a mars 760 X2 you can sli the 2 (kind of 3) cards and use the single 760 just for your physics and then use the dual 760 mars card for the rest of the graphics. So my question is what would be better the 3 gtx 760s or a gtx 980? Which will perform better, last longer, and be smarter? I think the main reason I am concerned and am leaning towards the gtx 980 is because I can always buy a second 980 if needed in the future. Thank you for your input on this possibly confusing question!

The problem is, for triple GPU setups, unless you run a X chipset (EG X58, X79 or X99) or run Z chipsets with PCI-E lane 'splitters' (for example, Z97x Gaming GT), you will more likely to have too few lanes to run 3 GPUs.

A typical non-E CPU has 16 lanes, when running 3 GPU's, the lanes usually gets split x8/x4/x4 configuration. The second x4 is your biggest limitation, since that's the lane your second 760 in your SLI pair would run at, and since SLI requires X8 on all of its GPU's, you simply can't activate SLI in that setup.

So the safe bet is either to drop down to 2 760's and SLI, let the SLI'ed GPU handle physx, or get a 970 to swap out your 760.

980 is only worth considering if you are either after the very best GPU without a shred of regard for value. 970, 290x and 290 shreds 980 for price to performance.
