Does the Intel 915g chipset support 64-bit processors?

I'm thinking about upgrading the processor on an Asus PTGD1-LA motherboard and it has the Intel 915g chipset. It all came from an old computer and I'm not too familiar with older components. So I wanted to know if it supported 64-bit processors.

I also wanted to know if the motherboard can support double sided DDR DIMMs. Someone told me that it can despite what the motherboard manual says.

That's a pretty old board, and I'm guessing that it came from an old HP Pavilion machine. You should look at the old HP specification documents to see what CPUs are supported and what bios is needed for them, but I don't think that you are going to get a big upgrade out of it.

Believe the manual about double sided DDR unless you find a solid source that says otherwise, try the memory advisor at Crucial.com and enter the original HP model to get their memory recommendation.

Yep, it indeed came from an old HP Pavilion a815n computer that I got from a friend of mine a few weeks ago. The CPU isn't as important to upgrade as the RAM is but I'm having trouble finding single sided RAM. It really needs a memory upgrade. I would like a 64-bit dual-core CPU but as I said it's not as important as the RAM.
