I currently have a Z68A based mother board. Could I run 2 newer GTX 970's in SLI using such an old chipset?

Current Build:
CPU: Intel i7 2600K
Motherboard: MSI Z68A-GD80 (G3)
Ram; 16GB GSkill 1333
2X EVGA GTX 580 in SLI
Already run 2 Crucial SSD's

So far I have been told the 2600K is more then capable for gaming right now and that upgrading to haswel would not exactly be advised.

Am I shooting too hight with 970's in SLI, Should I consider a single 980 instead?

Does anyone have any other recommendations card wise or upgrade wise? I've been having some issues posting here so I am adding as I go.

don't they test any of this stuff before they sell it ?? or its tested on one brand now top end board and it worked on it so its good??

Well that definitely pumps the breaks here. Has anyone had success and/or know what the issue between the two is
