So over Christmas i received a new Sandisk 120gb ssd, i was using a Hitachi 1tb hdd for everything, so i installed windows on the ssd with the same windows key i was using on the hdd, (knowing that after i formatted the hdd, windows could use the key for the ssd) after transferring some files onto an external hdd i reformatted the hdd, started transferring files back onto the hdd as a storage drive, then realized i am on windows 8 pro build 9200 (as displayed on the lower right corner) so i proceeded to activate windows with my key in the settings, but it says, "This product key does not work. you might need to get in touch with the store or company you bought windows from, or you can buy a new key with Microsoft."

so did my windows not de-activate when i formatted the drive or something?
basically how can i get my windows activated before it boots me for not having a key, and for your information my copy of windows is legit, though it was a gift when i built my PC so i don't know if it is a OEM copy... oh and also the error code i keep getting is 0xC004C003

My brother had bought the both of us some windows 8 keys, so i downloaded the ISO from Microsoft, and after install activated with the key he bought... i used windows for a long time with no issues, but when i re-install onto a new SSD it acts like the key was a single use, which according to my research the new system with windows 8, even the OEM version can be re-installed... so i am just confused...

oh and also i tryed using the windows activation over the phone, and it was not working. the only difference between this install and my first install, is that instead of getting the ISO from microsoft i got it here:

http://getintopc.com/softwares/operating-systems/download-windows-8-pro/

just because i could not find the ISO anywhere on microsoft...

Certainly must be genuine if he bought the keys from Microsoft. If he bought them from eBay then there is no mystery. The error means that that key is a System Builder key that has been sold as a retail key and has been blocked by Microsoft. Of course, they could have made a mistake.

When I said that you need to talk to Microsoft I mean that you need to talk to them to convince them of their mistake, not use the automated activation process.
