Hello members of Tomshardware! today I am trying to transfer server files from my desktops SSD (also running the OS on it windows 7) to my USB 3.0 external HDD. My issue is that my transfer speeds from SSD to USB 3.0 is only 80 KB/s... is that terrible? or is it because windows is also using the SSD while trying to transfer? pc specs just in case: http://pcpartpicker.com/b/RLjcCJ

Total file size is only 178 MB and it took over 45 mins...

Solution
The 2 main things that slow down a data transfer, namely:-
1). transferring to/from a mechanical hard drive, the 5,400rpm drive are the worst as the are the slowest
2). transferring lots of small files (smaller than 1mb), the more files you're transferring the longer it takes

Unless there is some issue with your SSD it won't be the bottleneck in your system.
