Hi all,

I have a new rig in a 3RU rack case (ASRock X99 Extreme 6, Xeon E5-2609v3, 16GB DDR4) but the stock standard Intel Xeon CPU cooler (BXSTS200C) is very loud! Take out the CPU cooler and the system runs at about 25 to 30dB, add the CPU cooler back in and we're up to around 50dB!

I'm looking for recommendations as to what people have found works well to quieten down a Xeon based build.

Some alternatives I've already looked at:
- Noctua NH-U12DX i4, but its too tall (3RU only gives about 130mm of usable height)
- Corsair H80i, this will fit and might work, but Corsair recommend mounting the radiator vertical (152mm) which won't fit in the case, so it would have to be horizontal: not sure of the implications of this.

One possibility may be the Zalman Reserator 3 Max - has anyone had any success with this unit?

Any other units people would recommend?

Thanks,
Rob

Thanks AirForce101HD, but there's less than 100mm between the RAM chips on the X99 board and at 128mm on its shortest side, it ain't gonna fit. Thanks anyway.

Thanks pauls3743, I wasn't aware of that setting so thanks that has certainly quietened it down, it was on "Standard" and its now set on "Silent" (not off though), I'll just need to monitor it to make sure it doesn't get too hot. Hate to think how loud it would be if it was on two settings above at "Full"!
