I have just bought a TL-WR841N (Tp Link Wireless N Router) to extend my existing wireless network connection, from a Bt Home Hub 3. I managed to set up the TP Link router as another wireless network which is joined to the BT hub using an ethernet cable. However, the two networks are separate and i want them to be one network.

Does anyone know how i can merge the networks to make one which i can extend by putting the second router in a wifi dead spot?

You need to configure the TP-LINK as an access point rather than a router -- That router doesn't seem to have an easy way to toggle to access point mode like some others do. Depending on the hardware revision (up to 8.x) -- it is supported by DD-WRT firmware. This link will show you how to tell which version you have.

DD-WRT has very good tutorials on how to configure as an access point.
