I directly screwed the motherboard to the case.

I have a NZXT S340 and ASUS H97 plus motherboard.
I'm new to building pcs and when I was building my pc, I Screwed the motherboard directly to the NZXT s340 case holes (just holes) using screws (not standoffs) that fit. The PC works fine but I researched and everyone says its very bad. How are you meant to install a motherboard in the case?

Solution
Hi

It is vital to check there are no standoff pillars in locations where there are no holes in motherboard
(risk of damage to motherboard)

These is one standoff in picture which does not need a screw it it just helps locate motherboard

If a screw fits into the screw thread of standoff pillar it will be ok (provided it is not too long or too short)

the short black screws are probably for hard drives (where it it is important the screws are not too long)

Standoffs. In the case, there was a little bag of screws. In that bag were little brass things. These are supposed to go in between the motherboard and the case. The raise the motherboard off the metal case, so the back of the motherboard does not short out against the case.

Turn it off, take it apart, and don't turn it back on until you have those standoffs in place.

Hi

USAFRet is usually correct

but without the standoffs I don't know how you managed to fit the ports at the back right edge of motherboard through the holes in the back plate
( video ports , usb, Ethernet, audio, keyboard (ps/2) etc )

Some cases have a motherboard base plate with raised bumps pressed into base plate , which are used instead of standoff pillars .

Usually there is a combination of these bumps and holes for standoff pillars

Does your case have these bumps and was your motherboard ports accessible through the back plate
( note the back plate usually comes in the box with the motherboard and snaps into place )

If you have a flat base plate then you are lucky the motherboard was not destroyed

Right. I was going to address that as well. How is it actually fitting??

But from that review I posted, it showed a bag of standoffs. A couple may have been preinstalled, but unlikely it was ALL, or all in the right holes.
I just built a system in a Rosewill case, and a couple standoffs were already installed. But not all, and 2 were in the wrong holes for the particular motherboard.

I recently built a computer with an obsidian corsair 750D in which the stand offs were already on. I think most cases come with the standoffs already screwed in nowadays, also after googling it would seem that you get 2 or 3 extra standoffs with that particular case and the others are already screwed in. 95% sure there's no reason to worry.

I think they did have standoffs in it, I just used regular screws in the motherboard holes to screw into the standoffs. Is that okay?

I will put up pictures

I think there are already standoffs installed in the case. There were 1 or 2 more standoffs that came with the screws box.

There was one in the middle that is different, I think it is to secure the motherboard

I just used other screws that came with the case to secure the motherboard. Is this okay?

There are also more screws that came with the case like 6-32 screw flat, M3*5 Flat

Is it okay to screw the motherboard to the standoffs using screws(Random) that I used?
