Hello, I am building a new pc for gaming and I was wondering if I could use my old pc's hard drive which is 1tb, with windows 7 home premium 64bit installed on it, instead of buying a new OS and new hard drive. I have the product key for windows but I do not have the installation disk, also I am new to pc building

Is this Windows 7 a retail version, you purchased seperately? Then install the HD & do a Fresh install, to get the correct drivers loaded into the OS.
If it is an OEM OS that came with a prebuilt system (HP, Dell, etc) can't be done, the OS is tied to the OEM's motherboard, & can't be transferred.
If it's an OEM version you bought, maybe, after the install, you will need to call MS for activation & it's up to them.
MS can tell if the OEM is 'bought' separately or from an OEM such as HP, Dell etc.

Old drive with an old Windows install, going into a new PC has 2 potential issues, Operation and Licensing.

1. Operation - Will it actually boot? Probably not. Fresh reinstall with the new hardware

2. Licensing - Even if it does boot (unlikely) you may run into licensing issues. Is it an OEM license? If so, that is tied to that original motherboard. You may get lucky, and MS will allow that same license to be used on new hardware. But they are under no obligation to do so.

If Retail, you will have to go through the phone robot to reactivate.
