Why does my computer still run slow?

I recently installed a new graphics card (amd r9 280x) and i still only get 60-40 fps on skyrim no enbs installed, Its not running much better than my old graphics card (gtx 650). My specs are amd fx 8350, r9 280x, 8gigram, 24 inch 1080p monitor. These specs should be running better then they are can someone tell me what could be the problem

Both skyrim and farcry are CPU intensive games, as BBradley said, Overclock you're cpu, get a nice air cooling solution AT LEAST, You will see a massive improvement if you manage to squeeze a nice overclock on you're CPU, its holding that sexy 280x back

The FX series of processors do not handle Skyrim particularly well, unfortunately the game isn't very well optimized for them. If you can, I would recommend attempting to put a bit of an overclock on your 8350. What type of CPU cooler do you have?
