I have a Dell Precision T5500 workstation that's about 5 yrs old and recently I've had sporadic problems with it turning on. It started off when I would put the computer to sleep and it wouldn't wake up, instead the power button would blink amber 4x and the 1 & 3 lights on the front panel would blink 4x, then it would be completely shut off. Now it happens sometimes when trying to boot it up. Sometimes I can leave it for an hr or unplug it and come back to it a little later and it will start. Looking around it seems to be a problem with the power supply.

If I press the test button on the psu while the problem occurs I hear a click and that's it. But looking through the manual for my pc, I don't see a combination of the power light blinking amber and the 1 & 3 lights blinking. Lights 1 & 3 blinking with the power light off says psu failure though (starting on page 10)

I didn't change or add any components before this problem started happening either.

Does anyone have any ideas on this before I go and get a replacement psu? And does anyone have a recommended replacement part? My current psu is part #NPS-875BB A

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am having the same issue. Could you provide what PSU that you bought?
