I have a Cooler Master Silent Pro M 1000w 80+ Bronze. I just bought a Gigabyte Gtx 970 and got it today. Issue I'm having is the the cord that was plugged in my old card (msi gtx 670) is a 6+2 and the 970 has a 8 pin port and a six pin port. Do I need to fill both ports or can I just use the 6pin port?

Still learning here and how everything works. Thank you for the help!

Ok so I'm having a issue where on startup or boot I get 4 beeps about 15-20 secs apart. Before with my old card it was only one beep and then began starting windows. This is happening before I installed the driver software and after. Is that normal with gtx 970? Also I pulled hw monitor up and noticed the power part for my processor for package and and IA cores is fluctuating and I don't remember it doing that before.

Sorry its 4 beeps but I think the first one is a little longer then the next 3. So 1 long 3 short I think. I have a Gigabyte X79-UP4. I've been able to play Eve no problem, haven't tried any graphic intensive games yet. It's just those beeps are concerning me.

I think you should look up gigabyte beep codes and see if you can find yours :/ I looked at a few but they were different. It's not affecting how your pc works right?

I wasn't able to find a whole lot on beep codes for my mobo but I did manage to figure out how to update the bios and that seems to have done the trick. Boooting up fine now.Thank you for all your help Skylarz!
