I have a WD Passport and was transferring photos from an SD card to my external drive and all of a sudden error message "Request not performed because of an I/O device error, 0x8007045D" came up. The external hard drive shows up in my device manager under disk drives. I have gone through under advice and pressed on the Windows and R key, typed in msconfig, clicked on selective start up and under this deselected load start up. Then under the services tab clicked on Hide all Microsoft, then clicked disable. Then hit ok, then restarted the computer. And it is still the same. I Have checked all devices, which said it was fixed. Any advice would be HUGELY appreciated

Hey there, Moosh12!

I'm very sorry to hear about your WD My Passport problem.
I'd suggest to uninstall all your drivers under USB controllers in Device Manager. Afterwards, reboot your computer and wait for Windows Updates to reinstall the USB drivers, then plug the external and see if it will respond differently.

I'd highly recommend to test the drive using Data LifeGuard diagnostics tool and see what is the health status on your drive: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=7GrGec

Another thing I'd suggest to try is running chkdsk on the drive. Open Command prompt and type chkdsk x: /r (where x - is the drive letter assigned to your WD Passport). This might take a while, so be patient.
Here's another thread that might give you more ideas on the troubleshooting as well:

Keep me posted with the results! Hope this helps! :)
Merry Christmas!

Hi SuperSoph
I ended up taking it to a computer repair shop (I know its cheating!!) after spending over 5 hours on the phone with Microsoft technical support and still having no luck. Unfortunately my technological capabilities are limited, so I thought I would leave it to a professional. I did read the answer from the forum yesterday and tried that but it didn't work. I really appreciate your help, thank you :)

Good job, turning to a professional repair service store!
Good luck with the troubleshooting and Merry Christmas! :)
