I bought a new desk and set my computer aside in another room for a few hours, after that I used compressed air to clean my computer since it has been a few months since I've last done it. After that a really strange problem happened. The monitor either goes back to sleep or I get a check signal cable message on the monitor.

I tried using another vga cable, and then another monitor and I got the same result. I thought that the graphics card might have been too dusty or loose or something then, so I removed it, cleaned it and popped it back in, and still the same result. Lastly I took the graphics from another computer (it seemed to be a very simple graphics card) and used that one on my computer, but that didn't work either. I'm all out of options now. Has it reached the point where this is in need of a computer repair tech? I really hope this isn't the case, but I'm starting to think that somehow the motherboard is busted, but that seems to incomprehensible since I haven't done anything abnormal with my computer beforehand.

Solution
if the error is at post try replacing the cmos battery and then clearing the cmos. if the cmos battery is weak the cmos may not be holding and the mb is falling over to the onboard port first. on the monitor itself check the cable for bent and broken pins and a broken cable.
