Hello Everyone, this is my first question in this community. I like this community, so many useful threads are here :).
Now my question is I have following configuration:-
Processor :- Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 @ 2.20 GHz
Motherboard :- Intel D945GCNL
RAM :- 2*2 = 4 GB RAM
Hard Disk :- Segate 160 GB HDD
SMPS :- I-Ball 400 Watts.
Also there is one extra fan inside the cabinet for keeping it cool.
Now my question is I just bought AMD Radeon HD 6670 Graphics Card and when I get it after 4-5 months I am suffering from overheating issue. My motherboard is overheating at it happens a lot when I use it with graphics card. But After removing graphics card the pc works quite well, it does not overheats and shuts down as it used to be after inserting graphics card.
Now my question is why my board is overheating? BTW board is 5 years old.
Is SMPS is not giving enough power for the graphics card which then results in motherboard overheating and then shutting down the pc automatically?
Also the card is overclocked to 900 GHz power and 925 GHz memory with the help of AMD Overdrive.
Now my question is what is causing it overheating? Is my motherboard is faulty or the SMPS is not giving enough power to the graphics card which results in overheating and then auto shut down?

Solution
The motherboard is not likely to be any contributor to performance or heating issues.
It's job is to support the cpu.

The power supply is also not a contributor to heating issues. The fan on a psu has just one job: keep only the psu cool. Your psu may be of poor quality, but that is another issue. If it is working ok, keep it.

Graphics cards with DDR5 are likely to be higher performing and consequently run hotter.

What is the real problem here?

As I read it, your heat issue has worsened recently.
What has changed?
My guess is that you have accumulated dust in the cpu or graphics coolers. If so, try to clean that out.
If so, remount it or buy a simple $30 cooler like a cm hyper212.

Possibly your cpu cooler has dislodged and is...
Older gen cards like the 6670 run hot. So do older gen cpu chips.
The problem is likely your case cooling.
What case do you have??
One fan, particularly if it is smaller than 120mm will not cool well.
Take the side covers off and see if that fixes your problem.
If it does, it is perhaps time to change out your case.

Okk, Thanks for suggesting. I forgot to say that there are 2 versions of that graphics card. One is 1 GB DDR5 and second is 2 GB DDR3. I have the second one which is 2 GB DDR3.
So what really the problem? Motherboard? Well I think motherboard is the problem because its 5 year old and may be now not suitable for new type of hardware + I have only 400 watts PSU.
So the solution is to change Motherboard and SMPS. Right?
Thank You for the fast reply :)

Possibly your cpu cooler has dislodged and is no longer cooling effectively. Nudge the cooler to see if there is any wiggle.

I would not change out the motherboard until you want a modern cpu.
For that, look at a intel chip.
A $70 G3258 and a lga1150 motherboard can give you 2x the compute power of your E5400 at stock. 3x if you use the overclocking capability.
A modern motherboard will use ddr3 ram, not the ddr2 you have.
Fortunately, ddr2 has a good resale value.
And... the G3258 will have integrated graphics which is almost the same performance as your 6670 card.

Ye,s May be SMPS is not giving enough power. Now, I am also thinking that it is due to poor case cooling and low end (400 watts) SMPS. Thanks for Your help.
Again thanks to all for helping me out guys.
