hello everyone, thank you for reading my thread.

I would like to mention that I did follow the guide in the sticky and discovered the following things.

My pc shows no signs of life. I press the power on button and nothing can be seen or heard. All the fans are dead, psu and the casefans.

I`ve tried the paperclip test using a keychain I bended, without succes. I`ve also tried to manually start the motherboard by touching the pins with a screwdriver, also without succes.

Now the things I dont understand. the light at the lan plug in the motherboard is on when I press the powerbutton. A light I have connected through usb also burns with the psu on. I can also still charge my phone through usb. If my psu was dead, would this still be possible?

all of this happened in the night so I cant explain how this all happened, I cant hear a beep during boot either.

I really hope someone has a clue of whats going on.

thank you all for reading.

edit:
system specs
gigabyte h97 d3h
seasonic g series 520w
i5 cpu

Solution

the psu has 3 different power delivery "rails"... one 3V one 5.5V and one 12V, the 12V can die on it's own and the LEDs will still work. Sounds like a dead PSU.

Before we write it off completely, your description of what you've tried worries me a little bit...

Before we write it off completely, your description of what you've tried worries me a little bit. When you attempted to manually start the psu... you used a wire to bridge the GREEN wire in the psu's 24pin plug, to one of the black right? if that's the case, then yes. your psu died.

yes that`s what I tried. I do feel the psu warming up after I turn the pc on, but I dont hear the fan. I`ll buy a new psu and post back here in a day or two. I sincerely appreciate the given answers

is the failing paperclip test not sort of a confirmation? ive taken all componants off the mobo except the cpu to see if it powers anything. I can try. should the paperclip test still work since its powering leds and my phone?

sorry for the best answer selection. im rather new to this :p

i have no idea about your technology knowledge in this case.

my knowledge is not very good about this. I only find it weird that the psu fan doesnt work anymore, and then the paperclip test failed so I dont know where else to look.

Since we're not on site we can only take posters at their word. Tom stated clearly multiple times he attempted to jumpstart his psu. If the psu's own fan won't start then it's dead. end of story. there is nothing to debate on this matter. It happens even with the best psus

lets keep our fingers crossed and pray that it didn't damage anything else in his system when it blew.

do you think theres a big chance of more damage being done? this happened while I was asleep but im hoping since the usb ports still have power the rest still works. should I check my cpu for burn marks too? also when I checked this morning the psu was not hot, it was warm. well anywaya ill keep my fingers crossed. thank you for all your help.

the psu fan spins on heavy load in many cases.

It can blow most of your system when a psu goes (it doesn't always, it's a fear because it happens, but it's also not a guaranteed). No way to find out what happened until you have another psu to try.

true. but the G series, while it's fan is temp dependent, does not operate in "fanless" mode like many other seasonic psu. Which means the fan should spin no matter what when the psu is turned on.

I still had warranty so they replaced mine.Everything is working again, no other componants were damaged, it just sort of died after 2 months. I sincerely appreciate all the help. Thank you all.
