Hi guys, I'm going to buy a new workstation for 3d renderings and animations, no gaming. I read a lot of posts but still am a little confused and debating. I'd like to maximize my investment if possible.
Mainly software used: 3dsMax, Vray, Sketchup, Revit, Photoshop, After Effects. Budget's $5,000.
I need to buy this new pc by the end of this year so I have 3 days only to accomplish it and hope you can help me.
The IT guy at my office suggested to go with a DELL dual Xeon 8c proc system, basically to use more cpu power (16 cores + overclocking). I also read that somehow an i7-4960x would perform better than a dual Xeon proc system.
RAM 64 GB
MB Asus
COOLING
STORAGE SSD 980GB for main storage
GRAPHIC CARD TITAN BLACK or 780Ti or SLI
PSU 950W
CASE

Thanks for any advice.

I would go with an Intel Core i7-5960X for the additional 2 cores for those programs, and also use both a fast OS SSD and a fast scratch SSD, as most of those programs benefit from a separate scratch disk (something like a Samsung 850 Pro 512GB for each).

And if you will consider overclocking the 5960X does quite well, although you will want an excellent air cooler on it, or more likely a good water cooling solution if you are going to push it.

HERE is a review on the 5960X, which IMO only makes sense for what you are doing and certainly not for just gaming.

That looks very solid to me, just to save the hassle though make sure that you get Windows 8.1 so you don't have to upgrade. Also you might want a HDD for backup storage, your call since I don't know how much data you need to keep for any length of time.
