Which do I upgrade first? My GPU or my CPU and MoBo?

Hi, I was planning on finally buying a new GPU to replace the AMD HD 7850 HIS IceQ 2Gb that I am currently running, but I read online that running an AMD R9 290 (which is what I want to upgrade to) will be bottlenecked by my processor. I'm currently running an 'AMD Bulldozer FX-4 Quad Core 4130 Black Edition 3.8GHz' processor with a 'Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3 AMD 760G' motherboard.

Would I be bottlenecking the GPU using these pieces of hardware, in which case, should I upgrade these before the GPU? I've also seen that new games like Assassins Creed: Unity and Far Cry 4 also state that they won't play smoothly on my spec, as an 8-core AMD processor with 4GHz is the minimum needed apparently. Is that the case? Does anyone use the components I'm using and run into any problems on these games?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated,

Matt.

I don't have any parts of your rig except the GPU which is a 7950. With even the small performance gain, previous games in each of the franchises you mentioned (Far Cry and AC) are out of reach on the highest settings on my PC. Honestly, it may be worth biting the bullet and saving for a longer period.
If you need a definitive list, I'd say;
1st-GPU
2nd-CPU
3rd-Mobo

Hope this helps :)

I haven't used those components myself but I have played AC IV and I have a fairly good processor and I do regard my GPU as being good but there are always more significant improvements in GPU 'tiers' rather than processors. Also remember that should you upgrade your CPU, you may have to change your motherboard and in some cases, your RAM (Broadwell and Skylake Intel CPUs).
