Unable to disable programs from running in background

So I often check my task manager to see what's running and I often see Hotspot Shield and VM Ware are. I know of the generic MSconfig startup method which I do use, however neither of these programs are listed there. So is there any other way of disabling these programs from running in the background?

Thanks for any help in advance :)

I'm not familiar and haven't used either of them so I'd start with checking whether either of them have a configure application or an options setting in the applications themselves.

I am unsure of the nature of these programs but if either of them have an interface then it may be possible to disable them launching at startup (make sure they are not vital to the integrity of the machine or being started by another application.)

Hello, Hotspot Shield is a simple VPN and VM Ware is a virtual machine program - therefore obviously neither are vital or in fact have any reason to be running. How would I go about disabling them?
Thanks.
