Currently have one running and have a spare and am wondering if my PSU (850w) could handle running them SLI.

I've never used either card, but just doing a quick scan of the comparative specs I would sell the 480s and get a 970 or a 980. You'll get better performance on current games, with much lower TDP, noise and temps. Just my two cents...

And I thought my 770s were power hungry...
For dual 480s, which are extremely power hungry, that PSU is going to be borderline. Minimum recommended is 900W with 67A on the 12V rail - the M2 is rated for 68A. With no overclocking, it'll probably work...for a while anyway. Even with 900W, you're going to have very little, if any, headroom. Actual PSU requirements are always subject to debate since manufacturer recommendations always include a fair amount of safety margin, but I've read quite a few posts from 480 owners that say you really do need a beefy PSU for them. Hope this helps.

thanks for the input-ya I was thinking it would be cutting it kind of close but wanted a second opinion as I'm not super familiar I just know 480s are power hungry, these ones are a 4gb config reference cards-...not sure if the vram makes a difference on power consumption, guess the question is now; New psu, or take that money and put it towards a 970-but I wonder what the performance comparatively would be dual 480's vs 970. Also I don't necessarily plan on oc'ing the 480s-but who knows.
