how can we use the pixma printer mp 258 without a color cartridge?

I want to print only black and white prints.. do i need to install a color cartridge in my printer or can I skip using a color cartridge?

text yes photos no. this has been my experience with pixma printers. it will how ever remind you it is out of ink for eternity. i would get a color cartridge just to avoid that
