All i asked for christmas was newegg giftcards and it's shopping time. Doing assorted research so far to get the performance for the 2 gig crossfire setup of the 6870s i pretty much need to go to R9 280x/285/or 290(if want to spend some extra dollars) for noticeable improvement?. Nvidia way i know less about because havent used in so long but not against it. I would of course sell off the 2 6870s. My other option is to get a way more monster case for better cooling and get a say barely better single card and i can always dual setup down the road. looks like can get a 280x for about 200 post rebates, 285 about same price(seems like 285 might look lower spec wise but its using newer architecture makes it better in some areas and worse in others), the 290 is better then both but would require some cash from me. Im normally leery of newish stuff for kinks and crap so not that gung ho about 290 for price. Most if not all the internet searching tells me what 1gb 6870 or even crossfire 6870 compares to, but having the 2 gb version makes it more difficult and probably not cost effective. what say the toms nerds?

just means more research is only reason havent done much looking at nvidia stuff(and yes i know they are better at power management with current stuff vs amd, 1 reason trying to go to 1 GPU to have less crap in case/less heat). know most comparisons of AMD stuff and their naming/re badging. why the 285 was tossed in my orig post since its based on the new architecture and the other 280s are just 7900's. I never get top end cards but to me would be more then mid range since got the first 6870 3 years back and just got a 2nd once 1-2 years back.
