What does overclocking do? Does it damage your cpu overtime? Also if i plan on overclocking my cpu, will it increase wattage. If so,by how much?

Solution
Q: What does overclocking do?
A: Overclocking is making a component run at a speed faster than it was initially designed to run at. So it actually speeds up the parts.

Q: Does it damage your cpu overtime?
A: Yes it will damage the CPU faster than running it at the stock speeds. This means its life span is reduced. Although if done properly and cooled properly the damage can be reduced and give the CPU a long lifespan.

Q: Also if i plan on overclocking my cpu, will it increase wattage?
A: Yes it will increase the wattage drawn from the wall. This is because you usually need more voltage to run the parts at a faster speed/ Higher frequency. The amount will depend on how much of a voltage bump the parts need. No one...

A: Yes it will increase the wattage drawn from the wall. This is because you usually need more voltage to run the parts at a faster speed/ Higher frequency. The amount will depend on how much of a voltage bump the parts need. No one can really tell you the exact amount. But IF you are just OCing (OverClocking) the CPU and Ram the most you should go over is by 100 watts max. Now if you OC the the GPU also it could go over this.

The only reasons to OC are 1. If you are having performance issues or 2. If you just want to. Other than these reasons there is no need to OC. Personally I do it because I like to and want to.
