game mode on tv's is an option which disables the processing of the data from your GPU to the display, which slightly enhances your experience. you CAN use a 4k hdtv for a monitor, but your gaming experience wouldn't be very great, because of the 30 hertz refresh rate - max 30 fps. if you are going to buy a 4k display, that this is my recommendation. if you will use it in your living room for tv, than the refresh rate isn't that important, cuz most 4k movies are 30fps anyway. if you are going to buy it for pc gaming, 60hertz should be the minimum, cuz less then that, as i said before, will greatly affect your gameplay experience. hope this helps :)

Ok. How many Gtx 980 graphic cards would I need to play games such as battlefield 4 on the highest settings?

could you point me to the biggest 4k monitor that meets the requirements as you suggested? and could you tell me how many of the gtx 980 I would need for gaming at highest graphic settings?

technically, you can put up to 4 980's together in sli, but what should be a waste of your money. i'd say 2 980's is a sweet spot for price to performance, but linustechtips posted a video on 2 980's vs 3 970's. here it is: http://youtu.be/dwiuD1WtnNs
as for a monitor the Acer XB280HK is a GREAT monitor, but its a little bit pricy costing over a grand. its a 4k g-sync monitor for fps and tearing control, its 1ms response time - great for gaming, and it has a built in 5x3.0 usb hub - great for more usb 3 expandability. find it here: http://tinyurl.com/mq2be3o
if you are looking for something a little bit cheaper, the ASUS PB287Q is also a great choice, as its a 4k monitor @ 60Hz, which 2 gtx 980 will use very well. also it also has a 1ms response time - as i said, great for gaming.

these monitors are for gaming - which means they have gsync (well on one of them), and really low response times, but their viewing angles and their color reproduction wont be AS great as some pro grade 4k monitor - with high response times and great color.

whatever you pick, 4k monitors are beautiful, and with whatever you go you WILL enjoy it.

I've just finished BF4 campaign like an hr ago. To play 4k@ultra, you'd need 4 GPUs, you could try 3, but it might not be as great. I was playing 4k@ultra with only 1x 295x2 and it just kept freezing at some specific points of the game, so 2 GPU is not enough for 4k@ultra. After I turned Crossfire on up to 4 GPUs, I have no problems at all, the graphics are fantastic for BF4 4k@ultra, unbelievably real :D

Edit: You could get away with just 2 GPUs, but you won't be able to run ultra.

did you ever look at sli scaling at 4 way sli? its just a waste of money and 2 980's can run 4k very well. especially if you overclock them.

Like BF4? Since that's what moto wants to play. Also, by your definition of outstanding, does that mean 40+ or 70+ fps? Since everyone has their own definition of stable level for themselves.

for me 40-70 fps on ultra 4k is outstanding.

I like 50+, any lower might cause lag in some areas. But he does want to play a shooter/fast action game, so with only 2 GPUs, he might lag a bit in some places and some he will not at 40+ fps. I suppose he could try 2 GPUs for now and can always add more later, assuming his CPU and mobo will support more later.

I really appreciate all the responses from both of you guys! The graphics industry really needs to kick it in gear so you don't have to get 4 cards to play at ultra on a 4k tv. i know its high resolution, but look at the movies nowadays, they are incredibly real looking. It really amazes me that you have to buy thousands of dollars worth of computer components to play a game at ultra settings.
ANYWAY, My last question is: Could I just get (2x) 295x2 and that would be good enough to play at ultra settings? (Look below for build.) BTW, FC4 looks freaking awesome! I havent played it yet but I will once my new system is built. Here is the build I am planning to build in a month:

The cpu and motherboard looks good, if you're switching to 2x 295x2, you'll need the Evga Supernova 1600w PSU like me :)

Edit: And yes, with those 2, you can run games on ultra without any problems. I've been playing BF4 and FC4 and their graphics are absolutely stunning 4k@ultra with no problems at all. I think FC4 might have the best graphics as of right now, I totally love the game, it is just so much fun :)

But BF4 has some very good graphics too, it's just that it is kinda limited. Just PvP over and over again, it is still a very good game, but I like FC4 more because there's so much you can do , by yourself or with a partner. So far FC4 hasn't given me any problems yet running 4k@ultra, even though it is optimized for Nvidia and I'm running on AMD. It's just so limitless and the graphics are indescribably real, ridiculous how playing on such settings and there's no problems, so it definitely deserves a 10.0 rating :D

Edit: It is on sale right now by the way, for another 36 hrs, so you should take the chance to get it while it is cheaper and maybe we can explore the 4k awesomeness together
