PC build for heavy multitasking and light gaming

I am trying to get into building PCs and I need one for several things: heavy multitasking (mainly in chrome; this includes watching videos, searching things in several pages, and editing a document), light gaming (minecraft, FTL, TBOI rebirth, TF2, and possibly skyrim), coding in java, and general web browsing. My price point is around 500 dollars but I could go slightly above that. I already have the peripherals I need, so the build just includes the computer and the OS; I can probably get windows for around 20 dollars on the software swap reddit. Could I have some suggestions for the components that I should use? I don't really have any preferences. Thanks!

Being limited to 500 dollars is quite harsh. AMD for your cpu is probably best, they have cheap processors that perform well. Aim for 8gigs of RAM, and maybe a 750ti graphics card. You should really try for 600-700 dollars at least, you really will be skimping with that budget.
