win7 fails to start on 'starting windows' screen after new mobo [asus b85m-g] tried ahci / ide no joy

Solution

A fresh install would pretty much be the only way to solve the problem. The os installs based on the hardware in the pc, so it doesn't always work when moved to another system pre-installed in a HDD. Back up your important files before you do a fresh install ofc. If you are using a HDD from a pre-built system chances are that you cannot move the OS off of the HDD without paying for a new OS
