CPU getting hot even with better coolers.

Hey forum.

For a while I've been trying out different coolers to try to get better results. At the moment when it runs games running from Titanfall to my girlfriend's Sims 4 and Minecraft, it's been getting much hotter than I would like. I'm reading max temps from Core Temp of up to 73 degrees C.

Intel Core i5 3570K (stock speed)
Gigabyte GA-H77M-D3H
16GB DDR3 RAM
Corsair H80 Cooler (Using MX-4 thermal paste)
Sapphire R9 270X
Silverstone 80+ Gold 700W
WD Blue 1TB HDD
Aerocool X-Predator case

I've used the stock cooler, Cooler Master Hyper 212x and right now I'm using a Corsair H80 with push pull and intake from outside of the case. I've had about the same result with all of them.

I have an MSI Z77a-g41 motherboard laying around which I intend to swap into it instead at some point, but want to fix the temperatures first.

Any help which can be given would be much appreciated.

That isnt right there could well be a problem on board the CPU return it because it is faulty the stock cooler shouldnt even grt near that temprature. Are you overclocking if so stop? its unehathy for a CPU to be running that high even though its in its operating ranges it will cripple its life span.

73c isnt so bad, although i would expect less from an H80 or even the CM212x considering the games youre playing. go into bios and see if you can lover the cpu vcore. thats an easy way to lower temps, just make sure you dont lower it to the point that it becomes unstable.
also make sure case airflow is adequate

Thanks for the quick responses to this post.

I'll start by quickly saying that for both the motherboard and CPU a warranty return is not possible.

I thought about lowering the voltage and stuff. Is there a decent guide around as to how to do it properly and then test its stability?

I might add though, that the thing I find really weird is that the average temperatures are roughly the same going from the stock all the way to the H80. I mean, like five degrees difference on the whole, which shouldn't happen, even if there is a heat/voltage problem.

start over. take cpu cooler off mobo, clean all thermal paste off cpu/hsf with 100% acetone (can be found in the beatufy section of most stores as nail polish remover) and put a pea size dop of arctic silver/mx4/whatever thermal paste in the center. mount the block/hsf and do-not-wiggle during installation. make sure cooler is mounted properly.

and im assuming you have case fans installed

as far as lowering voltage, assuming the mobo has this ability, lower voltage in 0.05v increments 1 step at a time, boot into windows and run prime95 for 30min (this tests for stability as well as loading up the cpu to create heat)

what program are you using to monitor temps?
