Hello everyone, I am looking for some guidance or at least some answers regarding a current issue. Just some background information I recently purchased a seasonic platinum 660 psu. The issues began when I swapped this psu in for my thermaltake tr2 600.

I am noticing a very slight high pitch buzz, almost sounding like grasshoppers or crickets when you're outside at night. This buzz is non existent for a few seconds on initial boot, once my pc gets to post, this is where it becomes constant. If I am in bios it is also constant. However, the noise stops being constant once windows is loaded. In windows, the noise is most present when moving, clicking, or scrolling with my mouse. In addition, it also comes and goes randomly i find, sometimes constant for short periods of time and then disappears.

There is also a very high pitch whirling noise (possibly coil whine) when i put my ear to my pc, however this is very very faint so I have no issue with this. Also, the buzzing noise isn't too loud when in windows either. My main concern is whether this is an indication that the psu is not stable.

This issue began before i replaced any other components but I since replaced my ram and my video card just because they needed an upgrade and the issue has not gotten worse or better. also, probably a separate issue but the 24 pin connector does not lock/clip into the psu or motherboard, but they do fit kind of snug otherwise. Is this a concern? it is fairly easy to remove the cables from their sockets but they look to be fully connected at the moment.

I contacted support for the noise and the cable, I asked questions about whether these were serious concerns or not but I did not get much of a response. They just sent me an rma form and asked me to fill it out. I was not asking for a psu rma as the noise isn't so bad, just wanted to know if it means danger.

So, to recap, highpitch buzzing/cricket noise at post and bios and fainter and sporadic in windows but more when i use my mouse. high pitch whirling (maybe just harmless coil whine) when ear up to pc. No clipping in 24 pin connector.

I have disabled eup, c state, and eist in my bios. I believe this helped a bit but it isn't fully gone.

Solution
i do not know if you got a hdd? but if yes...the cricket sound come from hdd usually
and the coil whine from psu is not an issue , can be normal depending the the hardwares compilation that make noise
