Hey dudes, built my PC way back in 2010 and used a not-so-decent graphics card at the time to save some dollars. I'm currently playing a lot of Arma3, COD, and BF and really just want to up my FPS. Price range ideally is $150-$250.

Power supply: 850W
Case: HAF X (listed simply to show that I don't think room is an issue)
Mobo: Gigabyte GA X58A UD3R 1366 Intel X58 Sata
CPU: i7 930 Quad-Core 2.8GHx LGA 1366 130W
Ram: 6Gb Mushkin Enhanced Redline (3x2Gb) DDR3 1600

Thanks and much appreciated!

I would wait for the GTX960 it's rumored to retail between $200-250 and have 4gb of VRAM.. It's supposed to be announced the 3rd week of January and probably release the next week after. It will probably perform slightly better than what a GTX770 did if you can find a GTX770 in that price range then pick it up if you don't need the new features. If you absolutely can't wait I would probably get a R9 280x.

Edit: That deal above that yumri pointed out is actually pretty amazing.

I use this card,

http://www.amazon.com/XFX-RADEON-1000MHz-Graphics-R9-280X-TDFD/dp/B00FSC5N66/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1419953177&sr=8-2&keywords=r9+280x

It was on sale for like $220 on Black Friday but it looks like the normal price is now around that range. You won't find an r9 290x for under $250.. most are in the $300+ range. Same with the 770.

This card is a beast on my 1080p monitor. All my games are set to ultra and I have no frame-rate problems.

Since your PC is from 2010 with a base level i7, 6gb of ram, and an 850w PSU, this card is probably perfect for you.

This is a good card that is in your price range today: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-video-card-r9280xtdfd

Now the question is what is your 850w power supply? If it is a quality PSU then that is enough for 2 gpus. If it is a cheap unit then I would be worried. Cheap PSUs are like cheap car amps, they throw a big number on the sticker and hope that you don't ever need half that amount of power. There is no regulation that requires the power supply to output what is on the sticker, or be able to do it for more then 3 seconds before it fries everything.

that would be good if the R9 290 wasn't just $10 more than that R9 280X with both of them under the $250 price point. As you said you are not able to find a GTX 770 for under $250 ... maybe you can used but not new and i suggest away from used GPUs espcially if you want to push them to the limits.

I think he'll be fine with just one GPU. I'm using a corsair cx600m for mine. I believe the requirement is a quality 500w for one 280x, and a quality 750w for crossfire.

I also think you should wait for the GTX 960. I had an X58/i7-930 that I ran at 3.9 GHz for it's entire life.(Coworker uses it now) I used a GTX 670 which is basically a GTX 760 - nice combo.Get a cooler & OC that cpu!!! Huge difference.

I didn't notice the newegg promo on the 290. Then yes I would definitely recommend the r9 290 for the OP. It will play all of those games perfectly for years.
