I am planning on ordering a new motherboard today for my 5 year old PC that was bought from Best Buy. I got a SSD recently and it has Windows on it, that was transferred from my HDD. All my data is on the HDD and it has important stuff like family photos, and work documents. Will any of it be deleted when I install the new motherboard? Do I leave the HDD unplugged until Windows is installed? The SSD has Windows and a few important files that can be transferred to the HDD. Will the SSD be at risk of being deleted too? Also, Is the motherboard selected good? I am on a tight budget and its on sale in Canada (where I live).

Thanks! I am noob when it comes to this stuff so I need some solid advice.

Thanks again! Is it important for the HDD to be unplugged until Windows is installed and working?

How do I install Windows 8 on the SSD with an upgrade disc that I made myself? Will my SSD have an existing copy of Windows on it somehow? I upgraded from Windows 7 to 8 for $15 awhile ago. Also do I need to format the SSD or can I boot without formatting it?

Thanks again for the answers so far! Sorry for all the questions.
