Unusually High Temps On My Geforce GTX 970?

Hi, I recently got a MSI GTX 970 4GD5T OC, and the temps seem pretty high. I ran the Unigine Heaven Benchmark and my temps were hovering around 77-79C. It would sometimes, very briefly, hit 80C. I don't know if this effecting it much, but I do have ASUS Xonar DGX soundcard directly beneath it. It covers up about half of left fan with a small amount space between them. I was thinking about moving the GPU to the bottom PCIe slot, but wouldn't that decrease my performance? My mobo is Asus M5A97 LE R2.0.

Solution
You cannot move the gpu to another slot . Only the top pci-e x 16 slot can run the graphics card at full speed .

Move the sound card instead even if it goes into the lower black x16 slot [ which runs at x4 ]

But 80 C is about right for a heavily loaded GPU being stressed

Is there another slot I can move the soundcard to? I think the soundcard uses a PCIe x1 slot. Only one of those is open on my mobo when the gpu is in place.

The 970 can withstand a temp of 89c before thermal throttling. Plugging the gpu in lower slots will make it run slower, but according to this, it doesn't matter all that much. Check your motherboard manual to make sure you plug your gpu in a 8x or greater slot. What is your case, and fan configuration? And a 4x sound card can plug into any slot.

I have Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 and I have 6 case fans.

Okay will do. So move it to the black x4 PCIe slot?

You can put a pci-e x 1 sound card in the black x4 slot and it will work just fine

Turn Back Fan to outtake (replace it to 140 mm fan)
Remove bottom Fan
replace cpu heat sink to close loop water cooling
replace front fans to high pressure fans
Add more 120 mm fan at top of the case

My temp with Asus GTX 970

Ideal 29 deg ( GPU fans not spinning)
when playing Crysis 3 - 63 deg ( GPU fans not even spinning)
