well that R9 280 is a 7950 u need a 500W+ tire 2 PSU to run things safe

i have a crossfire system running on a 750W PSU imo the PSU is the heart of your PC never skimp on it a

elo chepo 10$ PSU can burn 500$ in 1 second never go cheap on the psu

Depends, if the manufacture put it shoddy protection circuits(if they were installed at all) it could have easily fried everything attached to it. I have seen several Raidmax, powmax, thermaltake tr2s and ultra units wipe out thee entire system when they failed.

Thr R9 280 minimum PSU requirement would be a good quality 80+ certified 550 watt of PSU any thing lower would be dangerous and put the whole system at risk which i think happened in your case.

HD 7850 and R9 280 is almost the same but the R9 280 is clocked higher and has a 25 watt more TDP of 200 Watt.
