Nvidia driver issues, code 43, nvidia control panel won't open

Hello everybody! I would really appreciate some advice on this one. I had some issues with my laptop so I sent it to the service. After I got it back I was running some games to test if everything is fine. It was. Then after some hours of playing a game I got a CTD - since then I have issues with the Nvidia driver. I tried to update it - first I downloaded the latest driver from the nvidia site - no luck. Then I installed the one from the CD which is way outdated - no luck. I used Display Driver Uninstaller, and CCleaner in Safe mode and still, the Nvidia Control Panel wouldn't open and I got an error message when I was trying to open it. Then I noticed that occasionally an error shows up in Device Manager - Code 43. I checked soem forums about this and it is very vague. I am sure that I do NOT have a hardware issue as I tested my Nvidia 760M GTX with benchmark programs in Ubuntu Linux and all was fine. System utilities also don't show errors. When I reinstall the nvidia driver the error is gone - exactly until the next restart, than it comes back and it stays until I don't update the driver again with GeforceExperience. I have tried installing only the driver, I tried installing GFE too - no luck. In the end I reinstalled Windows 7 and I still had the error. Now I upgraded to Windows 8.1 and the issue persists. Anybody has an idea what could I do? I don't necessarily want to run Nvidia Control Panel if there is an alternative to it, but I do need to be sure that the dedicated graphics card is working because I am a video editor and an occasional gamer... thanks a lot in advance and happy new year to you all!

Thanks for the quick reply - well I tried that and the results are more or less the same... Nvidia Control Panel still won't open even if the Code 43 temporarily goes away...

You might have to go into safe mode, at which point, remove the drivers and/or remove the device from the device manager. After that, reboot normally, and remove the drivers if you didn't get to in safe mode. You do not have to go into the Nvidia Control Panel for this. You do that from the Windows control panel. After you remove everything, then reinstall drivers.

I am always going to safe mode when uninstalling drivers - I use Display Driver Unistaller. Now I tried to remove all drivers and Physics again and let Windows find the driver automatically - in this case the code 43 shows up in Device Manager. Now, I know if I would install the newest driver it would go away but NvCp would still not work. I heard from someone that flashing the GPU's bios could solve the issue but frankly I'm not very convinced about doing this. Would that void my warranty? Do you think it could be the solution?

Unless this all started from a bios flash, it is highly unlikely that this would be fixed from it. You most likely have bad registry entries or a virus.

If you have a spare HDD, you could try installing Windows on it, to see if the problem would be solved that way.

I understand. At the moment I can't do this - maybe I will try later. another thing, now that I let windows do the driver installation automaticall, I still have the code 43 erro in Device manager but there is some slight improvement too! The nvdia control panel icon IS on the taskbar (this wasn'tthe case before) However if I click it there's a new error message saying I don't have a display connected to an Nvidia GPU. Otherwise all the right click options in the nvcpl are functional it even suggest updating to 347.09 but I don't wanna do that because I know it won't work not even this much. About this new error message I read that it is something that can be olved in BIOS but I don't have any optons there concerning this... any suggestions?

USE THIS

FROM NVIDIA LIVE CHAT

"1. Better to create a "system restore" point before using it.
2. You do NOT need to uninstall "NVIDIA Graphics" drivers before using DDU
3. Open the link and click on "Download" button. It will open another page, select the topmost "Download" button for the latest version.
4. Then run : "DisplayDriverUninstaller.exe" file
5. Click on "Yes" to allow the program to run.
6. Click "No" when it asks "Reboot in safe mode now ?"
7. Now the application Window opens. Select graphics driver as "NVIDIA". Then click on "Clean and Restart (Highly Recommended) button."- NVIDIA

Ok, I tried this and I still can't open the Nvidia control panel. In the meantime I have reinstalled Windows again as well. Now the error 43 is gone, but as I said NVCP won't open and the GPU is not running at all. Also strange fact that GeForce Experience keeps offering me the driver I just installed as an update... I'm tired of this sh×t - service it is. NEVER BUY ACER!!

Still everything works fine for me :) I can finally have the latest graphic driver and access to the Nvidia Control Panel. Not to mention that the error from the Device Manager disappeared. So yeah, solved the problem for me. You can try it yourself as well if you're experiencing the same.
