Hi,
Here's my problem, I just purchased a new rig with a z87 maximus vi hero and a GTX 970. Unfortunately my new power supply will only arrive late next week. So i decided to use my old one which has only 1 x 8 pin-connector, 2x6 pin PCI-e and a 4-pin connector. Both z87 and my GTX 970 need a 8 pin-connector to work. But is there a way, without risk. I can make my rig work for a week with this power supply?

I was thinking maybe I could use the 4 pin for my mobo or maybe the 6pin PCI-e for my GTX 970.

My current power supply is an old Antec TruePower Trio 550w and my CPU is a i5 4690k.

Thank you community!

Hi

You need to specify if the connectors are PCI-e
And 6 or. 8 pin.
(Especially the 8 pin plug is it PCI-e or ATX 12 V)

Or atx 12 V 4 or 8 pin or 4 + 4 pin (which is more common nowdays ) for the cpu

The safest thing to do is Wait until you have the correct psu

If you leave out the graphics card and use the integrated Intel graphics the system may run with a ATX 12v 4 pin plug

Here's the information concerning my connectors from their website: a 4-pin +12V connector for single CPU systems, and a 8-pin +12V connector for multi CPU systems.

As you told me, I tihnk I'll have to play on the safe side and wait for my new PSU.

Thank you!
