I want to start out saying I don't know much about computer parts. I already have a laptop so I am not looking to buy another, I just want to replace parts. I only use my laptop for WoW and school stuff so I don't need anything really powerful. I only have trouble with loading screens and populated areas. My FPS hovers around 50 in non populated areas and 20 in Battlegrounds and populated areas. Here are the specs of my laptop:

AMD Quad-Core processor A8-4500m with turbo CORE Technology up to 2.80 GHz

AMD Radeon HD 7640G+7670 with 1g dedicated Cram

4g of ram

Could you please list some parts that would allow me to play on medium settings and get high FPS? Thank you.

The problem is that you laptop is pretty weak and the only thing you can really upgrade are the RAM and hard drive. It is possible to upgrade the APU since it is Socket FS1 (FS1r2), however, if the BIOS has not been programmed to recognize the new APU, then the laptop will likely not boot up at all.

Upgrading to 8GB of RAM can make the laptop a little more responsive, but it is not going to really improve gaming performance. Replacing the hard drive with a SSD will make the laptop much more responsive than upgrading the RAM, but again it will not improve game performance. The SSD basically allows programs to launch faster and game maps to load faster as well. Your in game FPS will remain the same.

The only way to get better gaming...

To improve laptop performance:

1. Uninstall any crapware
2. Defrag
3. More RAM (if possible)
4. Verify what is in your Startup and running. Stop anything not needed.
5. Reinstall the OS
6. Get and use an SSD for the boot drive.

Yes, you may be able to change the CPU. Maybe. But only within a small range, and you probably won't see a real performance difference.

Determine why it seems to be slow. Fix that.

The problem with most laptops is they have very limited upgrade potential. About the only thing you can upgrade is the memory and hdd. You might be able to upgrade the cpu I would need the model number of the laptop to find out, the gpu is most likely soldered and not upgradable. A ram upgrade may help a little. Upgrading to an SSD would improve the load times.

The only way to get better gaming performance is to buy a new laptop with a dedicated graphics card.
