Does anybody know what is the difference between the 16G modules included in the 3x16G kit and the single module 1x16G described below?
At a first look it seems to be that w/TS.

Kingston 16GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM ECC Registered DDR3 1333 Server Memory DR x4 w/TS Model KVR13R9D4/16

and


Kingston 48GB (3 x 16GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM ECC Registered DDR3 1333 Server Memory DR x4 Model KVR13R9D4K3/48

Now what on earth w/TS means?

The first one is a 1x16GB and the second one one is a 3x16GB
Everything seems to be identical excepting the above w/TS
Do you think that they will work together ?
I am thinking of installing them on this motherboard: KPGE-D16 (http://www.asus.com/ca-en/Commercial_Servers_Workstations/KGPED16/) with two AMD Opteron 6128
 
They will probably work together, but the channel the odd module is installed in probably won't operate in dual channel with the the other module unless the specs are very similar, which they are, so it's likely they will be fine. You will not of course be able to sense temperature on that module, but who cares about that? I've never run TS modules anyhow.

The specs are absolutely identical, 3x16GB is a kit, it is 3x KVR13R9D4/16

Absolutely no difference. For me it matters because I could buy the 3xKit for 542CAD while a single module will cost me 199CAD
if I have to buy (4x16GB) KVR13R9D4K4/64 that would be more than 800CAD.

I am not sure that I understand your comment regarding the channel
In the end I will have 4 identical 1x16GB installed ...am I missing anything? I hope I am not because if I am I would be in big trouble, that is a lot of money

Hmm ... I just got a reply to an email that I sent to Kingston prior to buying my RAM modules and the guy indicated to me that my modules might not work in 4 channel mode since they might not be identical.
This puzzles me because before buying these I checked the specs, see the above links, and the specs looked absolutely identical.
The guy from Kingston told me that they might not work in 4 channel mode because the components used to manufacture the modules might not be identical.

My question now is this: since the specs are absolutely identical what the heck can differ internally to prevent the memory controller to work correctly with these?

Does anybody know what exactly might differ from a chip to another that can cause a mismatch?
If that mismatch happens it will probably result in a downgraded performance or configuration/ Having 3 identical modules and 1 that is different what could be the result ?

Here is how the manufacturer recommends to install the memory modules.
This is for Asus KPGE-D16 with 2x AMD Opteron 6128

PS: I can still returnall the modules but I would be sorry to do that because the price was very good.
I paid 542$+199$ for the single module ($=CAD)

 
This is about fifty bucks more, but it's a Canadian retailer, NCIX, which I've bought from consistently through their US retail locations, and is a four module kit. I suppose it's better than taking a chance on them being incompatible. I'm guessing maybe something internally related to those sensors must be what they're saying would cause them to not run in multiple channel modes.
