GigaByte Z97X - GIGABYTE startup screen delay after connecting normal fan into CPU_OPT

Hi,

I connected a normal 12V fan into CPU_OPT on the Gigabyte Z97X Gaming 5 motherboard.

I did so because the fan power connector cable was too short to attach it to a normal SYS_FAN (1, 2 or 3).

In result the GIGABYTE startup screen appears about 5 seconds later after pushing the power button although earlier it appeared immediately. During this 5-second period I can see black screen.

I've checked the manual but there is no info about this delay.

Maybe you know what is the reason behind that ?
Maybe I shouldn't connect a such kind of fan into CPU_OPT ?

Thanks for help.
Curious user :)

I assume your System Fans don't have Molex Connectors? If they do: simply attach directly to the PSU.

Are you running a low-powered PSU? Possible the system boots slowly because you're at or close to your power threshold.

You can cheaply purchase a Sys_Fan to Molex cable or a sys_fan extender cable if distance is a problem. However, first remove the fan from its mountings and connect it directly to a Sys_Fan port and boot the machine to see if the problem doesn't occur again.

As far as the actual cause of the slow system boot is concerned: apart from power threshold causing your PSU to charge its capacitors more slowly I can only indicate that, as I'm sure you know, the CPU_Opt connector on the...

As far as the actual cause of the slow system boot is concerned: apart from power threshold causing your PSU to charge its capacitors more slowly I can only indicate that, as I'm sure you know, the CPU_Opt connector on the GigaByte Z97X is intended for CPU watercooling solutions and may run at a different voltage to the Sys_Fan connectors.
