When I connect the gpu via the pci slots in the motherboard the display from both the motherboard and the gpu no longer work, however if the gpu is not connected the motherboard outputs work fine, what is the problem?

Solution
When a PCI/PCIe graphics card is installed, the on-board GPU is automatically disabled to avoid a driver and resources conflict. When you remove the PCI/PCIe graphics card, the on-board GPU is automatically enabled again. That's all normal behaviour.

Now, if your graphics card isn't working it may be you haven't connected the auxiliary power cable(s) to it from the PSU, or the PSU itself may not be powerful enough for that particular graphics card.

Post your PSU model & graphics card model details.
