Hi fellows. Am looking forward to setting up my apartment network. Will like to provide both wireless & wired LAN in the apartment.
I'd understand that I will be required to connect the switch to the router to have more LAN ports (& also for the router to issue out addresses as per of its DHCP function). But what I'm confused about, is that [Approach #1] am I required to connect my (wireless) access point to 1 of the ports on the switch, or like the switch, [Approach #2]may I connect the access point to the router directly?
Qn1) May I know which approach is more "correct"? I am a bit concerned that Approach #2 may cause the DHCP operations to be more complicated?
Qn2) If a switch is involved, does that mean every single other network device in the network can only originate from the switches' ports, i.e. the router is totally "walled off" from the rest of the devices already?
